Neighbourhood: Bingham Riverhouse feels worlds away from central London, despite being less than 30 minutes from the city. Set within a handsome Georgian townhouse, the independently owned hotel sits on one of London's most picturesque riverbanks, where rowing boats drift by, and riverside walks lead to Richmond Park, Petersham Nurseries and the boutiques and cafés of Richmond town centre.
What to expect: As well as being a boutique hotel, Bingham Riverhouse is a members' club, wellbeing destination and riverside retreat built around the principles of conscious hospitality. Sustainability runs through every aspect of the experience, from the food on your plate to the materials used throughout the interiors. There is a sense of calm here, where guests drift between long lunches overlooking the river, restorative wellbeing experiences and beautifully designed communal spaces that feel more like an elegant home than a traditional hotel.
Community and ambience: Locals gather for morning coffee, freelancers settle in with laptops, members catch up over lunch and hotel guests mingle over evening cocktails on the terrace. This summer sees the unveiling of the beautifully redesigned Riverhouse Verandah, transformed by local studio Elevare Design. Layered planting, bespoke furniture and handmade crochet parasols frame uninterrupted river views, while polished cement dining tables, marble-inlaid bistro tables and upholstery crafted from recycled tent fabric reflect the property's commitment to sustainable design.
Adding another creative dimension is Energy Through Sound & Art, an immersive collaboration between visual artist Kasia Sifantus and DA Gallery. Gold-leaf artworks paired with sound healing installations invite guests to pause, reflect and experience the house in an entirely new way.
Which room should I stay in? The River Rooms are the obvious choice. Overlooking the Thames through elegant sash windows, they capture the tranquillity that defines a stay at Bingham Riverhouse. Interiors are understated yet smart, combining soft linens and calming colours that allow the river views to take centre stage. Some rooms include a freestanding copper bathtub, which makes the ideal vantage point for soaking up the views.
On the menu: Food is a central part of the Bingham Riverhouse experience and Executive Chef Vanessa Marx has created a menu that celebrates British produce at its seasonal peak. Every ingredient can be traced back to its source, with provenance proudly highlighted throughout the menu, creating a genuine connection between diners and the farmers, growers and producers behind each dish.
Designed for sharing, the seasonal menu is vibrant, nourishing and generous. Summer highlights include Peach Panzanella with organic finocchiona salami, heritage tomatoes and English cucumber; and Courgette Stuffed with Herb Quinoa and Sunflower Seeds finished with crispy courgette flower and lime leaf tofu cream. Enjoyed on the Riverhouse Verandah, with uninterrupted views across the Thames, it is one of London's most idyllic spots for a leisurely lunch or golden-hour supper.
Local experiences: While the river naturally draws guests outdoors for walks, paddleboarding or boat trips, Bingham Riverhouse offers experiences that encourage a slower pace.
