For our Neighbourhood Stays series our travel tastemakers uncover hotels and boltholes that ooze style whilst celebrating local. In this instalment Amira Hashish feels like a local at This Time Tomorrow, Florence.
Key to the city: This Time Tomorrow offers a window into local life in Florence
Neighbourhood: Sitting prettily in the residential neighbourhood of Le Cure, on the northern edge of Florence’s Centro Storico, This Time Tomorrow offers a refined take on Florentine living. Le Cure is known for its local cafés, artisans, and hidden gems such as the Giardino dell'Orticoltura, a picturesque garden with elegant greenhouses and peaceful paths. The viewpoint from the top has stunning views of Florence's terracotta skyline. This neighbourhood offers a quieter, more authentic side of the city, yet is just a short stroll from the cultural landmarks of Florence.
What to expect: Housed in a stately townhouse-style Abitazione across four floors, This Time Tomorrow is a collection of eight elegantly restored residences. A fabulous rooftop terrace is the ideal spot for a gathering with friends, a morning coffee or a cheeky aperitivo.
Community and ambience: The residences are designed to feel like home, encouraging guests to immerse themselves in local life. The true key to the city comes courtesy of curator Eric Veroliemeulen. A fountain of knowledge on all things Florence, he greets guests with the level of warmth and insight that makes your experience feel elevated and special. Before your arrival you will be asked to fill out a questionnaire which outlines what you are hoping to gain from your visit. Eric will then create a bespoke itinerary to match your tastes, suggesting lesser-known gems of the city. His charming team is on hand for your every need, be it a booking at a local restaurant or the day trip of a lifetime. Nothing is too much trouble. A hospitality guru, Eric’s wisdom sets This Time Tomorrow apart from your average vacation accommodation.
Design details: The architectural restoration, led by SpaceStudio and RecDi8, carefully balances Renaissance grandeur with contemporary ease. Soaring ceilings, Venetian tile flooring, and hand-restored frescos frame each space, while modern comforts elevate the experience. Every detail has been meticulously restored to showcase a building steeped in history and character.
The design draws on the Renaissance principles of light, symmetry, and order. Each residence features a mix of Old Masters and contemporary art, including pieces by Jacob de Baecker, Lorenzo Sabatini, and Salvador Dalí. Private kitchens are made for entertaining, and a few of the residences open onto a private garden or terrace.
Which residence should I stay in? Options range from one to three bedrooms, starting at 112 sqm. For an intimate stay, go for a one-bedroom apartment with a private terrace. For larger gatherings, the three-bedroom residences with private gardens offer the ideal balance of space and privacy. We adored the two-bedroom 1AM Residence. A grand tapestry of the Tuscan countryside greeted us in the living space, alongside a brilliant bronze fresco and antique inspired furnishings. Not forgetting the sumptuous bathrooms and sprawling terrace.
On the menu: On arrival guests are greeted to a hamper of treats, sourced by Eric and his team to showcase the abundance of local Tuscan ingredients. If you fancy cooking up a delicious dinner, each residence comes with a fully equipped private kitchen. Ready to up your cookery game? Step into the kitchen with Oliver and Roberta, founders of Cuculia restaurant, for a hands-on cooking class in your own residence.
The immediate neighbourhood also has a vibrant culinary scene. Florence’s famous markets and trattorias are just a short walk away, offering fresh produce and authentic flavours. Breakfast at Pasticceria Blasio, just across from This Time Tomorrow, was a real highlight. This popular local café offers a deliciously fresh lunch buffet too. For aperitivo, pop over to Caffè Lietta in Piazza Libertà where the finely crafted cocktails are on point. Dinner at Ristorante Alfredo, next-door from to This Time Tomorrow is a joy. Adorable owners Mario and Lucia treat you like family, serving up unpretentious Italian dishes with genuine warmth. The locals love it. This is the true taste of Italy we crave.
Local experiences: Guests of This Time Tomorrow are invited to experience Florence beyond the typical tourist trail. A curated evening at the iconic Palazzo Antinori includes rare access to the Noble Floor and a guided wine tasting. In Chianti, you can visit some of the region’s finest vineyards before a lively lunch at Dario Cecchini’s Officina de la Bistecca in Panzano.
For a creative immersion, a private session with marble sculptor Jason Arkles in the catacombs of Palazzo Capponi offers a fascinating insight into Florence’s artistic legacy. Or embark on an intimate journey through the city, tracing the steps of Michelangelo and immersing yourself in the heart of the Renaissance with an Art Walk Experience. Just let Eric and the team know what you are in the mood for and they will happily arrange bookings.
